FTC to look into Microsoft and Yahoo advertising deals

After all the news of Google being investigated by the FTC for their DoubleClick acquisition (which I blogged about here) it now appears that Microsoft and Yahoo will also be investigated for their purchases of advertising networks.
The Wall Street Journal is carrying a story today stating that the FTC plans to examine Microsoft’s deal to buy Aquantive for $6bn (blogged about here) and Yahoos deal to buy Right Media for $680m.
Microsoft were the first to call for Google to be investigated so it’s ironic that they are going to be subject to the same scrutiny. Slightly bizarre that they should all get investigated, perhaps the FTC recognises that between the three web companies they will have sewn up a massive portion of the online advertising world…
