YouTube sent cease and desist order to Techcrunch!

November 15, 2006

The YouTube story just gets more and more surreal with each passing day! Now Michael Arrington of the excellent Techcrunch has received a cease and desist order demanding he take down a tool that Techcrunch created which allows you to download YouTube videos to your hard drive. Mike makes an interesting point that they have quoted some terms and conditions that do not appear in their standard terms in their cease and desist.

There are many other tools out there offering the same thing, will be interesting to see if other people who’ve developed this type of software are receiving the same letters.

Come on YouTube/Google, you seem to be going out of your way to alienate people which isn’t a good idea! Let’s get back to those values of allowing people to share and use data! This is not making the world’s information accessible and useful!
