You can buy anything online…..

November 29, 2006

I’ve always thought that if you can find a market for it then you could sell it online no matter what the product was or how niche the market. It seems this has been proved correct by the rather bizarre news that the radioactive material which poisoned ex-Russian spy Litvinenko in London is available to buy on the web!

Over the years there have been all sorts of scandals surrounding the easy access to worryingly dangerous materials online. Ranging from the outcry at the Anarchist Cookbook back in the mid ’90s, to research chemicals being openly sold as psychedelics, to sperm offered for IVF treatment at $20 a pop and now poisons (and radioactive ones at that).

Okay, I’m exagerating a little, I’m not that surprised at all to be honest. The web is a free market and as such anyone can sell anything (until the feds come calling that is). It’s all too easy to set up online shops using Paypal and the likes.

Bets are being taken on what’s next!
