Google just keeps growing!

April 17, 2007

As if Google haven’t been in the news enough lately with their acquisitions and new products they’ve just announced the forthcoming addition of a presentation tool to their online office suite. Joining Docs and Spreadsheets will be a presentation tool to go up against the likes of Preezo and in some ways Powerpoint.

While not an out and out competitor for Powerpoint, the Google tool will surely be another blow to Microsoft.

Google have bought a company called Tonic Systems to bring the presentation tool into the fold. With all these purchases and different platforms (Writely etc) there must be a whole lot of glue-code sticking it all together!

Tonic Systems website has already got a page up announcing the deal, replete with Google logo etc. The page says that Tonic are ‘a San Francisco-based company that provides Java presentation automation products and solutions for document management – Tonic Systems Builder, Tonic Systems Filter, Tonic Systems Transformer, Tonic Systems Viewer, and JarJar Links. Features of their products included text extraction for indexing documents, presentation creation capabilities and document conversion tools.’ Now that sounds like a great buy for Google, with the aim of their office suite firmly pointed at collaboration those products sound like a very good addition to the stable!
